Every year I see multiple influencers posting that they are travelling to Mallorca for a few days (and, sometimes more than just one time), and I was wondering… What makes Mallorca so special? Why does everyone want to go there?
As a spanish girl that have never been to Mallorca, I wanted to make a research about it so, guess what, I traveled to Mallorca for five days with the purpose of discovering what was hidding in that spanish island that was making every swede go back.
When we arrived I was overwhelmed by the sudden hit, I mean, It´s almost July and it feels like the summer is taking a while to arrive in Sweden, so that was a bit of an impact. But such a treat. We decided to not stay in the spotlight of tourists, so we rented an airbnb in Alcudia. It takes around 50 minutes to arrive from the airport of Palma to Alcudia, so we rented a car for it. Renting a car is a must if you are travelling to Mallorca. As soon as we arrived, we left all our luggage in the apartment and went down to the port of Alcudia, and I have to say… it´s SO beautiful. The heat, the sun, the vibes, the energy…that was the inmediate feeling of being on vacation. We decided to take this trip as vacation, but not just that, also a way of getting to know the city, visiting places and soaking up some culture. We went to visit towns like Sóller, Porto Cristo, Valdemossa, Deiá… and I really thought - Is there actually real people living here? I mean it looks like a dream place. It´s true that it´s a bit far away from the bigger cities but the quality of life just felt amazing; and the food, OMG… we didn´t eat at the same restaurant twice, but every place that we went to was good. There was not even one that I can say it wasn´t; and also, cheap. The waitress treated us so kindly and friendly everytime and that made us feel more like home. My family and I are spanish and everytime we were going to a restaurant they we asking where we were from and giving compliments to our home town.
We visit two places that really surprised us and were not in our plans: one was the museum and academy of Rafael Nadal, it´s a bit expensive to visit but so worth it. They have some interactive games and also a very inspiring gallery of his trayectory. And the second one was the caves of Drach. They are very deep and when you go down you find yourself in a small river, but it was not just that, the best was when a small boat appeared from that river with five musicians playing classic songs with the piano and violin. It felt so special.
After all, when we came back home I finally understood why all the swedes wants to go to Mallorca, it´s not just the sun and the heat, it´s the vibe and positivity that the island radiates.
We will definitely go back, see you soon Mallorca.
